We will break the deadlock we have in this issue, says Tusk at a press conference in Warsaw, side by side with Ukraine's president.
Poland has been the EU's presidency country since the turn of the year. This means that the Polish government will host when the EU countries' leaders gather in the Council of Ministers during the coming half-year, giving it a bit more influence over the agenda.
And we will work together with Ukraine and our European partners to speed up the accession process, says Donald Tusk.
Domestic Arms Production
Volodymyr Zelenskyj's visit was announced earlier on Wednesday, when he was already in place in Poland.
At a joint press conference, Zelenskyj says that Ukraine wants to get permission to buy military equipment for money taken from the Russian assets frozen by Western countries.
The strongest support that the Ukrainian military can get is to give it 250 billion (dollars), says Zelenskyj.
He says that the money – approximately 2,780 billion kronor – can be spent on domestic Ukrainian production of military equipment and importing "exactly the types of weapons that Ukraine currently lacks".
Blocked by Hungary
During Zelenskyj's visit to the neighboring country, Donald Tusk also says that he hopes to get the other EU countries to approve support to Ukraine through the EU fund EPF, something that has long been blocked by Hungary.
Hungary is also blocking an extension of the EU's special economic sanctions against Russia. If no agreement can be reached before the end of the month, the sanctions risk falling completely.
