Aryna Sabalenka withdraws from Wimbledon – two hours before the world star was to enter the tournament.
"I'm devastated to have to tell you all that I won't be able to play The Championships this year. I tried everything to get ready, but unfortunately, my shoulder isn't cooperating. I pushed myself to the limit during training today to do my best, but my team explained that playing would only make things much worse", writes Sabalenka on Instagram.
The 26-year-old has taken two Grand Slam titles during her career, but none of them were taken at Wimbledon.
"This tournament means so much to me and I promise that I'll come back stronger than ever next year."
The Belarusian was to be matched against American Emina Bektas, who instead will face Russian Erika Andreev.
