State-owned Vattenfall wants to build a wind farm, 3.5 miles southwest of Pajala.
The energy giant has submitted an application to the County Administrative Board in Norrbotten.
The park, if it becomes a reality, will consist of 30 wind turbines, with a height of 250 metres, and is expected to be able to produce 800 GWh annually, roughly equivalent to the electricity consumption of 100,000 homes, according to a press release.
The project has been ongoing for a long time. As early as 2010, investigations of the area began, and initially, the plan was for 58 wind turbines. However, technological advancements have led to the conclusion that 30 turbines will suffice.
