American consumers are holding on to their wallets tighter. In February, retail sales increased by 0.2 percent compared to the previous month. The increase was significantly lower than market expectations, which were at an increase of 0.6 percent.
In addition, the January figure was revised down to a decline of 1.0 percent from a previous minus 0.9 percent. The weak retail statistics come at the same time as inflation pressure has increased in the USA and there is growing concern about how President Donald Trump's economic policy will affect households.
