The legal order is found in a non-public document from the department, which the news agency AP has taken part of, and which is signed by the US Acting Attorney General Emil Bove.
Bove refers to the fact that federal laws prohibit officials from "opposing or obstructing" the fulfillment of legal actions related to migrants.
In the document, he also announces that defendants will be charged with the most serious of the crimes that the prosecution concerns – previously, prosecutors have been able to choose which of the charges to be handled by the court. Bove writes that "all necessary measures will be taken to defend the public and secure the US borders by removing illegal migrants from the country and prosecuting illegal migrants for crimes".
Emil Bove, who previously belonged to Donald Trump's personal lawyers, holds the position of Attorney General until the nominated Pam Bondi is approved by the US Congress.
