After an initial win against Finland with 2–1, the self-confidence was high in the Swedish team.
And for a long time, it also looked solid and good for the Swedish part against the USA. The defense was where it should be and the reigning champion had a hard time getting the puck in.
But in the end, Sweden couldn't hold out any longer. After more than half the match, 16-year-old Christina Scalese scored and got past the Swedish goalkeeper Maja Helge.
Sweden made some brave attempts to respond, but without success. Instead, the nail in the coffin came in the third period when Evelyn Doyle extended in power play. The final score was 0–3 to the USA, after a concluding goal in an empty net.
The loss means that Sweden has two points after two matches, with one match remaining in the group stage. Then Sweden will face Japan, which is last in the group.
