The USA is strengthening its military presence in the Middle East to, among other things, be prepared to defend Israel if needed, announces the Defense Headquarters Pentagon.
The increase comes from combat planes, according to spokesperson Sabrina Singh.
The planes and personnel needed for them would actually have replaced personnel already in place, but instead they will strengthen the presence.
They are not there to assist any evacuation, but "they are there to protect the USA's forces", says Singh.
