Finnish Yle is launching a comprehensive savings program – which may result in 375 employees being laid off, reports Finnish media.
"The goal of the savings program is the parliamentary working group's requirement for the company to save 66 million euros," writes Yle in a press release.
This corresponds to approximately 770 million kronor.
The negotiations that are starting are the first part of the three-phase savings program, which will take place between 2025 and 2027, writes the Finnish Journalists' Union's newspaper Journalisti.
A total of 1,798 permanent employees are affected by the negotiations.
A parliamentary working group decided in September to cut Yle's funding – which means a reduction of approximately 47 million euros. A change in value-added tax also means that Yle's annual funding will decrease by approximately 19 million euros, according to the press release.
