Six employees from the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, Unrwa, have been killed in Gaza, the agency writes on X. The persons were killed when two airstrikes hit a school building in Nuseirat, according to Unrwa.
Israel's military claims to have struck, with high precision, what they describe as terrorists in a command center for Hamas on the school premises.
"What is happening in Gaza is completely unacceptable", comments UN Secretary-General António Guterres in a post on X about the six employees' deaths in the attack.
According to the agency, it is the highest number of employees killed in a single incident so far during the war. Among the victims are the person responsible for protection activities in the building and several members of the same team.
The school building has been attacked five times since the war began after the terrorist-stamped Hamas attack on Israel almost a year ago. Around 12,000 people, mainly women and children, reside in and around the building, writes Unrwa on X.
"Schools and other civilian infrastructure must be protected. They are not targets. We urge all parties to the conflict to never use school buildings and surrounding areas for military purposes", writes the organization.
