It was June 1967 when Ella Fitzgerald performed at Oakland Coliseum in California. She sang many jazz standards such as "Mack the knife", "Bye bye blackbird" and "Let's do it (Let's fall in love)". But also "Alfie", the theme song from the film with Michael Caine, and "Music to watch girls by", which became a hit with Andy Williams.
A recording from the concert has existed in record label director Norman Granz's private archive, but now the record label Verve Records is finally releasing the recording digitally and on vinyl. The sound has been mixed and mastered directly from the analog recording and is supposed to be better than on many live recordings from that time.
The musicians who accompanied Fitzgerald during the concert include members from Duke Ellington's orchestra, but not Ellington himself.
Ella Fitzgerald passed away in 1996, at the age of 79.
