Devyn LaBella has filed a lawsuit against Kevin Costner's film "Horizon: An american saga – chapter 2". The stuntwoman claims that she was forced to film a "violent" rape scene without prior notice, consent or the presence of an intimacy coordinator, which according to the union is mandatory. LaBella demands compensation for career interruption and "lasting trauma" as well as the court ordering Costner to always have an intimacy coordinator on his recordings and that those responsible undergo training against sexual harassment and violence.
In a submission to the Los Angeles court on Monday, Costner countered the lawsuit and called it a "shameless lie" with "false claims and sensational language intended to harm my reputation", reports The Guardian. Costner requests that the case be dismissed.
An intimacy coordinator on the film has supported LaBella's story and called the incident an "unplanned, violent rape scene" that the actors were not prepared for. She also points out that LaBella lacked protective clothing to guarantee safety and coverage.
Costner's lawyers, in turn, refer to SMS messages that LaBella sent nine days after the incident where she thanked for "fantastic weeks" and wrote that she was "very happy with how everything turned out". They also cite testimony from several experienced film workers and images from the recording.
