The center is to form the core of a new "AI campus" and will have a capacity of up to one gigawatt and "corresponds to investments of 30 to 50 billion euros" (between 339 and 566 billion kronor) according to Macron's office.
The agreement is part of a broader agreement on AI signed by Macron and his Emirati counterpart Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Thursday.
The purpose of the center is to be able to store data and provide the enormous amount of energy required for the new technology – and is according to Macron to be the largest in Europe.
The project was announced in connection with a summit in Paris on the changing technology and to find common ground on issues related to it.
