Unexpectedly gloomy index from Germany

The outlook for the German economy is deteriorating, according to German investors and analysts.

The Zew index, a monthly survey of the mood, fell to 10.3 in January, down from 15.7 in December. The analysts had expected an index of 15.1, according to Bloomberg's compilation.

As for the current situation, the sub-index rose to minus 90.4. This can be compared to minus 93.1 in December. The analysts had on average expected an unchanged index.
