On Tuesday, Lebanon's Health Department announced that over 40 people were killed and more than 120 injured in the Israeli attacks the day before.
Among the fatalities were over 20 people in the village of Aitou in an attack described as unusual, since most of the residents in the area are Christians. The village is also located far from the strongholds of the Shia militia Hezbollah in Beirut and southern and eastern Lebanon.
What we hear is that out of twenty-two killed, twelve were women and two children, says Jeremy Laurence, spokesperson for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, at a press conference in Geneva.
According to the mayor of Aitou, the bombed four-story building was rented out to families who had been forced to flee due to the escalating conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
On Monday, Iran-backed Hezbollah fired a large number of rockets at the suburbs of the Israeli metropolis Tel Aviv, in response to Israeli attacks on "cities, villages, and civilians" in Lebanon.
