Around the world, 281 aid workers have been killed so far this year, which means that 2024 is the deadliest year ever for aid workers, according to the UN's chief for humanitarian affairs.
Aid workers are being killed at an unprecedented rate, their courage and humanity met with bullets and bombs, says Tom Fletcher.
With still a month left of 2024, a "grim milestone has been reached", he says. Last year, 280 humanitarian workers were killed in 33 different countries.
This violence is ruthless and devastating for aid efforts, says Fletcher.
He further states that countries and parties in conflicts must protect aid workers, uphold international law, and hold those responsible accountable.
