The Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (The Moderate Party) has spoken on the phone with the USA's incoming President Donald Trump on Monday.
"I had a good conversation with Donald Trump today. Sweden and the USA are close partners since a long time ago. We talked about our cooperation in NATO and our common security interests", says the Prime Minister to TT in a written comment.
"We discussed Russia's war against Ukraine and I particularly emphasized that support to Ukraine is important for both Swedish and transatlantic security. We also discussed Sweden's and the USA's economic cooperation in trade and technology. Sweden is the tenth largest investor in the USA. I look forward to continuing our close cooperation and we will meet when the opportunity arises", Kristersson continues.
It is the first conversation between them since Trump won the presidential election almost two weeks ago. According to information to TT, the conversation lasted for nearly 20 minutes.
Last week, Kristersson said that he was not interested in any superficial courtesy calls with Trump.
We are discussing when the conversation should take place. What is important is that we get a conversation that also has good content, said Kristersson then.
