The 80-year-old Kellogg, who has long been retired from active service, is considered to have been an important advisor to Trump on security and intelligence issues. Kellogg was national security advisor to Trump's former Vice President Mike Pence.

During the American election campaign, Trump repeated his hope of being able to quickly end the Russian invasion war. Trump has also presented proposals for future support to Ukraine to be linked to negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.

Kellogg said in connection with Trump being nominated as the Republican presidential candidate that the alternatives for Ukraine "were clear".

If Ukraine does not want to negotiate, fine, then one must accept enormous losses /.../ and see one's children die and realize that one does not have 130,000 fallen (soldiers) but 230,000-250,000.
