The toxic chemical NMP has leaked on several occasions at a facility of the battery manufacturer Northvolt, reports SVT.

The reason for the leaks is said to be that the facility, where chemical deliveries are received, is not built to withstand the harsh winter cold in Skellefteå.

According to SVT, the pipes in the system where NMP is stored have frozen and burst several times, causing both water and NMP to leak out of the pipes.

Northvolt writes in an email to SVT that the facility is built for the climate and that preventive measures have been taken.
