The authorities seized over 100 million dollars during the operation, called "Serengeti 2.0". Approximately 88,000 people have fallen victim to the scammers.

In Angola, the authorities carried out a raid on 25 cryptocurrency mines and seized equipment estimated to be worth 37 million dollars. The money from the seizure will be used to improve the power distribution in the country.

In Ivory Coast, the scammers used a classic trick and deceived people into paying in money to get a share of fabricated fortunes. In Zambia, the investigators targeted a network that had come over 300 million dollars.

The operation was carried out by 18 African countries in collaboration with the United Kingdom between June and August.

Cybercrime in Africa now accounts for more than 30 percent of all reported crimes in Western and Eastern Africa, according to Interpol.
