Two Italian tourists were attacked on Sunday by a shark in the Marsa Alam area in Egypt. According to Egypt's Environment Department, the attack resulted in one man being killed and the other injured.
The men were taken to hospital in Port Ghalib, about five miles north of Marsa Alam, according to Egyptian authorities.
According to the Italian Foreign Ministry, the deceased man was 48 years old and the injured man 69 years old.
The authorities have now closed the bathing area for two days after the incident, which is said to have occurred "in deep water outside the designated bathing area".
The Marsa Alam coast south of Hurghada, with its turquoise-blue sea and coral reefs, is a popular destination among snorkelers and divers.
On Saturday, a man who was fishing at the Great Barrier Reef in Australia died in another shark attack.
