A heavy start, where Scotland, among other things, managed to steal two points when Team Edin had the last stone in the second round, paved the way for the Swedish defeat.
The Swedes caught up in the end, had 7–8 before the tenth and final round, but there they failed to get the last stone to stay in the house, and it went straight through. Thus, the Scots, who were already clear for the semifinals, took the win in the match and the top spot in the group stage.
Team Edin, which is both reigning Olympic champions and World Champions, had a last lifeline for advancement in the European Championship in Finnish Lojo – if the Czech Republic won their tight match against Norway. But it didn't happen, and Sweden's elimination was thus a fact.
Team Edin – which also consists of Oskar Eriksson, Rasmus Wranå, Christoffer Sundgren, and reserve Daniel Magnusson – has eleven European Championship medals previously and took silver last year.
