62-year-old Marcos Thomas Perez is being prosecuted for having transported and sold stolen goods across state borders, belonging to Miami Heat, reports AP.
On April 3, American authorities conducted a house search at Perez's home and seized around 300 game-used jerseys and other material.
Miami Heat has confirmed that the items were stolen from the club's facility.
According to the prosecution, Perez should have sold over a hundred stolen items for approximately two million dollars, equivalent to 19 million kronor, during a three-year period. He sent the goods across state borders and often sold them at a low price.
Among the finds is a jersey that star LeBron James wore during an NBA final. Perez should have sold it for around 100,000 dollars, approximately 1 million kronor. The same jersey was later sold at an auction for 3.7 million dollars, equivalent to 35 million kronor.
Perez, who previously worked 25 years within the Miami police, had an assignment for Miami Heat between 2016 and 2021 and was then employed as security manager for NBA from 2022 to 2025.
He worked on match days in Miami Heat's arena and was one of the few people with access to a locked room where the club stored items to be exhibited in a future club museum.
In Miami Heat, Swedish star Pelle Larsson plays.
