Sky Sports reporter Sam Blitz was concise when he commented on the striker's performance in the first half:

"Not much, is the short answer" he writes about the effort and then continues:

"He has only touched the ball ten times and one shot was blocked. Gyökeres showed glimpses of quality, with a couple of decent runs into the penalty area – including one at the end of the half when he bulldozed his way through two defenders. But they are brief highlights for the Swede, although it's worth noting that it's his first start”.

Viktor Gyökeres, 27, had his best chance in the 60th minute when he was played through with a deep run into the penalty area and finished with a shot that went straight at goalkeeper Luiz Júnior. Shortly after, he was substituted.

Arsenal's goal was scored by two other Scandinavians: Danish new signing Christian Nørgaard and Norwegian star Martin Ødegaard on a penalty.

Gyökeres was sold from Sporting to Arsenal in July after a nearly two-month long transfer saga. The sum landed at a total of nearly 840 million kronor.
