A man in his 20s has been shot dead in a woodland area in Salem, southwest of Stockholm. Three people have been arrested.

The fatal shooting is believed to have links to a shooting in Salem in May, according to media reports.

The alarm about loud bangs came to the police just before 11 pm on Monday evening. A man who was hit by the shots died at the scene.

Three people have been arrested in connection with the incident. It is unclear exactly what they are suspected of. The prosecutor is tight-lipped.

It's so early, so it's hard to say much more, says prosecutor Alexandra Bittner.

By Friday at 12 pm, the prosecutor will decide whether to request that the individuals be detained or released.

The area was cordoned off during the night and has been examined by technicians.

The investigation is in full swing. It's about mapping out the victim, the arrested, looking at what the motive might have been, and talking to people who have heard and seen, said police spokesperson Helena Boström Thomas earlier.

The fatal shooting has links to a shooting in Salem in May, according to reports to P3 Krim.

The police have not confirmed the reports but said on Tuesday morning that they are looking into whether the murder might have any connection to the gang environment.
