This year's "Musikhjälpen" is broadcast from Stora Torget in Sundsvall on December 9-15 on P3 on Sveriges Radio and SVT Play. Three well-known hosts are locked in the glass cage on the square to broadcast radio and TV around the clock for 144 hours. They will receive visits from artists and other celebrities, and the purpose is to spread knowledge and raise money.
According to Radiohjälpen, a woman dies every other minute worldwide due to pregnancy and childbirth. The situation is particularly problematic in low- and middle-income countries where access to healthcare is often inadequate.
"Ensuring women's sexual and reproductive rights and health is fundamental for the individual, the family, and society as a whole," says Radiohjälpen's Secretary-General Kristina Henschen in a press release.
The money collected during "Musikhjälpen" 2024 will go towards efforts around the world aimed at increasing access to care before, during, and after childbirth. This can also involve offering safe abortions, which reduces the risk of injuries and deaths.
