It's been more than eight years since last, now it's time again.
The Swedish driving license gets a new design.
Harder to forge
The new driving licenses are expected to go into production in January 2025 and look very different compared to their predecessor, which millions of Swedes have in their wallet.
The most noticeable difference is that the part that alternates between image and personal identity number is in the transparent window, says Peter Andersson, business developer for driving licenses at the Transport Agency.
In addition to the design change, the new driving license also has several new security features.
It's been almost nine years since the last driving license came, technology develops and therefore it's reasonable that we update the security, says Andersson.
It's basically about making forgeries more difficult.
Those who have a driving license with an old design do not need to do anything. They will remain valid until the end of their validity period, explains Andersson.
There are no rule changes, he says.
AI example
Another news is that the Transport Agency has used an AI-generated image on the example driving license for the first time. Anna Andersson, presented above, does not exist in reality.
Previously, there have been real people (in the images) and it's never good. Therefore, we started an investigation to see if it would work with an AI-generated person and we came to the conclusion that it worked, says Peter Andersson.
In addition to the driving license, the taxi driver's license, the moped class II license, the off-road vehicle and snowmobile license, as well as the ADR card (transport of hazardous goods on road), the professional competence certificate for drivers (YKB), and the tachograph card for professional road transport are also being updated.
