Crisis-stricken Northvolt is laying off 1,600 employees, of which 1,000 are in Skellefteå, 400 in Västerås, and 200 in Stockholm.

Now, union representatives are warning that the number may be higher, reports Sveriges Radio. According to Lena Lundgren, local coordinator at IF Metall in northern Västerbotten, the figures communicated only concern temporary and permanent employees.

According to the figure we have, there are approximately 200 temporary agency employees at Northvolt today. Then I don't know if there may be even more on the salaried side.

No final figure can be stated yet, as the negotiations are not complete, she says.

But since these temporary agency employees are not included, one could add them, and then we're talking about a slightly higher figure.

Northvolt tells the radio that they have no information about temporary agency employees and consultants at this point, but that "it's something that needs to be mapped out".
