Elisabet Gunnarsdottir was Kristianstad DFF's coach for 15 years, between 2009 and 2023.
Since she left the Skåne club, she has been without a job.
But now it is clear that the Icelander will become the new national team captain for Belgium's women's national team, which will play in the European Championship this summer.
"I look forward to training the "Red Flames", especially with the European Championship in sight. Belgium has made great progress in women's football in recent years and has built up a strong national team, with both experienced and young players. Together, we can achieve fantastic results", says Gunnarsdottir to the association's website.
The 48-year-old has signed a contract until 2027 and will bring Swedish Magnus Pålsson as assistant coach.
