On Friday evening, a 47-year-old supporter was ejected from Liverpool's home arena Anfield, suspected of racist insults against Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo.
On Saturday, the 25-year-old, a national team player for Ghana, published a post on Instagram where he thanks for the support he has received after what happened.
"I will remember last night at Anfield forever. Not for one person's words, but for the way the entire football family stood united", writes Semenyo.
The main referee Anthony Taylor stopped the match for a few minutes due to the incident in the first half, which is being investigated by the British police.
We take incidents like this very seriously. In such cases, we work proactively, together with the club, to try to get bans against those guilty, says Kev Chatterton, chief at Merseyside police.
League champions Liverpool are aware of what happened during the 4–2 win.
"We condemn all forms of racism and discrimination. It has no place either in society or in football", writes the club on X.
Antoine Semenyo scored Bournemouth's two goals in the second half. After the match, he published on his Instagram a picture of a racist comment he had received on one of his pictures along with the text "When will it stop".
