On Thursday, a 400th anniversary is being celebrated in one of Copenhagen's most iconic buildings, Børsen, which was severely damaged by fire in April. Denmark's King Frederik has been given the honorary task of laying a symbolic first cornerstone in place ahead of the reconstruction work that is now taking off.
Half of the building is destroyed, but as much material as possible will be reused. Despite the dramatic fire, many valuable objects were saved and much building material has also been able to be restored.
The work is expected to take several years.
I am completely convinced that we will get a building that will stand for 400-500 years to come, Brian Mikkelsen, CEO of Dansk Erhverv, previously told the news agency Ritzau.
