The forces are to help Ukraine maintain peace in the country after a potential peace agreement with Russia.
"I feel the great responsibility that comes with possibly putting British soldiers at risk. But everything that ensures Ukraine's security also ensures the security of our continent, and the security of our country," writes the Prime Minister.
The announcement comes ahead of the hastily convened meeting between European leaders in Paris on Monday, following the US's statement that Europe may be excluded from peace talks on Ukraine.
In November last year, France's President Emmanuel Macron made a similar statement, where he, like Starmer, opened up to sending French soldiers to Ukraine.
