Whoever provides information leading to the arrest of Jimmy Chérizier, also called "Barbecue", will receive five million dollars, equivalent to just over 48 million kronor.

He is a gang leader who is responsible for atrocious violations of human rights, including violence against American citizens in Haiti, says the American prosecutor Jeanine Pirro at a press conference.

Chérizier and another man, who was arrested in Texas last month, have been charged with sending money from the USA to finance criminal activities in Haiti.

They are alleged to have collected money from Haitians in the USA and then had it transferred via intermediaries to Haiti. The money has then gone to salaries for members of Chérizier's gang and to buy weapons.

Chérizier, who previously was a police officer, leads an alliance of criminal gangs called G9, whose members are among other things accused of murder, rape and kidnappings.

Last year, Chérizier threatened with civil war in Haiti if the then Prime Minister Ariel Henry did not resign, which he did.
