A shorter concert version of the new musical about the royal ship Vasa was arranged in the throne room at the Royal Palace in Stockholm on Monday evening, attended by, among others, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia.
The royal ship Vasa capsized and sank off Beckholmen in Stockholm on its maiden voyage in 1628. About 30 people are estimated to have died. The wreck was salvaged in 1961.
The performance, "Vasa – The musical", will have its premiere in the autumn of 2025. The creators are the composers Elias Gammelgård, violinist, and Simon Bång, conductor.
