The injury stops Messi – not playing against Peru

Lionel Messi will not play in Argentina's third and final group match against Peru in the World Championship.

The world star injured himself against Chile on Tuesday.

Now there is no reason to take a chance with Messi, 37, on Saturday. Argentina is already through to the quarterfinals in the championship.

Argentina's assistant national team coach Walter Samuel says that they will take it one day at a time with Messi's injury, but also states:

Messi's absence means a lot to us and to football.
