The animated blockbuster "Inside Out 2" continues to attract large audiences to cinemas – and has now surpassed the "Dune" sequel as the year's highest-grossing film, reports industry magazine Variety.
The top spot was achieved just eight days after the premiere.
During the cinema premiere in the USA, the film took in the equivalent of more than 1.6 billion kronor. The total has now risen to around 3 billion kronor, slightly more than "Dune 2", which stands at 2.9 billion.
Furthermore, "Inside Out 2" has the potential to break the record for an animated film in terms of the second weekend's viewing figures. "Super Mario Bros. The Film", which was released in spring 2023, remains unbeaten on that point.
For animation studio Pixar, this means a long-awaited comeback after struggling against the wind for a few years, according to Variety.
