Sweden will apply for funds from an EU fund to support individuals who have been laid off from Northvolt and subcontractors affected by the company's downsizing.
The Employment Service has been tasked with handling the application, which can provide up to approximately 160 million kronor in support.
"The layoffs at Northvolt are having a hard impact on many people. We want to ensure that those who lose their jobs can take part in initiatives that can strengthen their skills and help them find new employment," says Minister for Labour Market and Integration Mats Persson in a press release.
The support comes from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF), where the Swedish state covers 40 percent of the project's costs.
Northvolt notified 1,600 employees of layoffs in September due to the company's economic crisis. In October, it became clear that 338 employees would be laid off, with the majority in Skellefteå, as well as 840 people from the battery factory in Skellefteå.
