The rivalry between Blur and Oasis is the subject of a new play that premieres in London's West End next year, writes NME.

The two British bands had their respective heydays in the 90s, when they were both Britain's absolute biggest bands. The play "Battle" takes place partly during the summer of 1995, when fans were on tenterhooks about whether Blur's "Country house" or Oasis' "Roll with it" would top the charts.

Blur won that fight, but bassist Alex James has later said that Oasis won the big war, often called "The Battle of Britpop".

"Battle" is written by comedian and screenwriter John Niven, who has described the production as "a comedy with bite".

The director and actors are not yet known.
