The EU condemns in the strongest terms Iran's arms exports to Russia.
In a statement, the EU's spokesperson for foreign and security policy, Peter Stano, says that the export of drones is a direct threat to European security policy.
The EU also warns of "a significant and real increase in Iranian unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) and ammunition" in Russia's illegal war of aggression against Ukraine. In the sharply worded condemnation, the EU notes that the Iranian deliveries are being made simultaneously with Russia's carrying out extensive "brutal attacks on Ukraine's population".
The response from the EU will come "soon and in cooperation" with other countries, writes Stano in the statement. Measures will be directed against Iran, as well as against individuals and companies involved in the country's drone and robot program.
Measures targeting Iran's aviation sector will also be implemented, according to Friday's EU statement.
