"The damage to Cinia's underwater cable C-Lion1 is suspected to have occurred on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at 02:37 Finnish time", writes Minna Järvinen, communicator at Cinia, in an email to TT.
"The repair of the cable is currently being planned and the repair schedule will be confirmed at a later time", she writes further.
C-Lion1 is a communication cable that runs between Finland and Germany. Cinia states that the damages, which are in the Swedish economic zone, are small and that data traffic continues as normal.
A preliminary investigation into suspected sabotage is underway.
The police have no new information on Tuesday, but have previously stated that there are no suspects and that the investigation was initiated to clarify what happened and "if it's a new or old damage".
There have been several cable breaks in the Baltic Sea recently. In July, the tanker Eagle S is suspected to have dragged an anchor tens of kilometers on the seabed, thereby damaging several important cables between Finland and Estonia.
The vessel was then seized by the Finnish police. Now, the police are considering issuing a departure permit for the vessel, reports Illta-Sanomat. However, eight crew members are still subject to a travel ban.
