The Swedish handball star Jim Gottfridsson is suspended for one match in the Olympic Games tournament after being sent off against Slovenia yesterday. He will therefore miss the meeting with Croatia on Friday.
The Swedish midfielder hit an opponent in the face with his elbow and was sent off in the middle of the second half in the match that Sweden lost 24–29.
With only one win and two losses, the handball team is in a tough spot in the group stage and risks missing the quarterfinal. The team has Croatia and bottom-placed Japan left to meet.
Germany, Slovenia, Croatia, Spain all have four points. The top four teams will reach the quarterfinal.
