The Australian playwright Patricia Cornelius, who is behind the play, tells that Assange has not participated in the project, but is aware that it will be realized, writes The Guardian Australia.
Her goal with the production is to dig deeper into questions about freedom of speech and the silencing of whistleblowers. However, she also brings up that Assange was suspected of sexual offenses against two women in Sweden, an investigation that was later dropped.
The Swedish allegations still characterize the image of Assange, according to Cornelius.
Even my bloody doctor said to me: "What a pity he's a rapist", she says.
Five actors play all the roles, including several versions of Assange. The play premieres at Malthouse Theatre in Melbourne in February.
The WikiLeaks founder faced the consequences of publishing military and diplomatic documents about the US war in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Assange spent a total of almost 14 years either in prison, barricaded at the Ecuadorian embassy in London, or under house arrest before being released earlier this year after pleading guilty to spreading confidential information.
