This weekend, the alpine season is getting underway in earnest. However, the focus was not on the sports aspect during the national team's kickoff meeting. Instead, large parts of it dealt with the problems within the association, particularly those that have recently come to light in SVT's anonymous survey among alpine skiers. Several skiers shared their perspectives on whether they had confidence in the leadership or not.
"Unprofessional approach"
It has been handled in a very unprofessional way, says William Hansson.
I hope the association takes hold of the problem as soon as possible so we can look ahead now that the season is getting underway.
Hanna Aronsson Elfman:
The survey speaks for itself, but it's sad that it shows that's how it is. Now it's just a matter of trying to work for better confidence on both sides.
"Crazy and disappointed."
Another problem that took up a lot of time was the economic conditions within the alpine national team. Several skiers have to finance their own efforts, some receive support from the Swedish Olympic Committee (SOK), and some are fully funded by the association.
One of the stars who is fully funded is Kristoffer Jakobsen.
Of course, I understand all the skiers who are disappointed, especially all the skiers who have gotten significantly worse contracts from one year to another, he says.
It doesn't matter what job you have, if I got 70 percent worse pay, I would have a hard time believing that I would stay in that job, it's a bit the same with the contracts. I understand that people get crazy and disappointed.
