OS-qualified Vanessa Kamga is still showing radiant form. On Saturday, she threw 65.09 meters – a Swedish record in the discus. The throw took place at national team colleague Simon Pettersson's competition in Örbyhus.
On the Swedish Athletics Association's website, Kamga says:
"It feels so big, so cool! There's a lot of work behind it and it feels honorable. I've been going for a long time and had long throws in me. It was a fantastically fun competition and the audience was so engaged. The discus is a strong event in Sweden right now with many throwing far."
The previous record was set in July 1999. Then, Anna Söderberg threw 64.54 at a competition in Norwegian Arenmark.
"We have an incredible breadth in the discus now and that the Swedish record stood for almost 25 years says a lot about how good Anna was. Anna has been a great inspiration for all of us in the generation after her, and I know she's always believed in me and said I have it in me," says Kamga.
