Copenhagen police arrested a 25-year-old Swedish man with two hand grenades in the Tingbjerg area on Tuesday evening.

The man has now been detained for possession of the hand grenades. According to prosecutor Astrid Helmsø, the plan was to detonate the hand grenades in Copenhagen, which failed because he was caught by the police.

He is reasonably suspected of both crimes. Firstly, possession of two hand grenades, but also for wanting to detonate the hand grenades in Copenhagen, she tells Danish TV2 and continues:

He is also suspected of having acted in collusion with other unidentified perpetrators.

The intention was to harm others. The motive behind the planned detonation is not clear, reports the news agency Ritzau.

The 25-year-old man has admitted to possessing the hand grenades, but denies the allegation that they were to be detonated. He is detained until September 11.
