A gang criminal from Sweden who was arrested in Greece last week has already been sentenced to 20 months' imprisonment in the country through a simplified process, reports SR Ekot.
The man is detained in absentia in Sweden, suspected of, among other things, incitement to attempted murder and serious weapons offences, and was arrested in Halkidiki. Documents that Ekot has accessed show that he is also suspected of several crimes in Greece in connection with the arrest.
The man is in his mid-20s and has been described as a leader within organised crime in Stockholm. He had, among other things, false identity documents on him and a pistol, ammunition, and cannabis in his home.
It is unclear whether the entire sentence will be served in Greece or Sweden.
The important thing for us is that he is detained and cannot continue his activities. If it then takes time for us to get him here, I do not see that as a major problem, says Mats Ihlbom, prosecutor in the Swedish case, to the radio.
