Victoria Larsson and Marcus Svensson were noticeably downbeat and brief after the qualifying round in Chateauroux, a few hours south of Paris.
No surprise.
With 136 hits, the Swedish duo finished 15th and last in the mixed skeet qualifying round.
They recently scored 146 at a World Cup event in Italy – exactly the result that would have been required to shoot for bronze in the afternoon.
We have a really bad result. That's just the way it is, says Svensson, Olympic silver medalist in Rio 2016.
It was a tough day, notes Larsson.
Victoria Larsson's Olympic debut was no highlight. She finished eleventh in the individual event.
Olympic nerves? Of course, they're there, but I think I should be able to handle them anyway.
This is the first time Olympic medals are being awarded in mixed skeet. Now we have to wait until Brisbane 2032 for the next opportunity.
In Los Angeles 2028, it's the trap shooters' turn to compete in mixed events.
- A good competition format. Shame it's not included every time, says Victoria Larsson.
Italy won the qualifying round with 149 hits and will face the USA in the final. China and India will compete for bronze.
