After just four months, Maik Machulla gets fired from the coaching job at Ålborg's handball team.

The club states in a statement that the game has not developed as expected and that they see signs of lacking spark and playing joy in the team. The drop that seems to have made the cup overflow was the loss against Norwegian Kolstad in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Ålborg has five Swedes in the team. Fabian Norsten, Felix Möller, and Lukas Nilsson are all selected for the national team matches against France and Denmark next week, and Jack Thurin and Anton Hellberg also play for the Danish champion club.

As recently as in June, Ålborg lost the Champions League final against Barcelona. Then it was already clear that successful coach Stefan Madsen would leave the club, which chose to replace him with German Machulla, previously among other things coach for Flensburg in the Bundesliga.

Assistant coach Simon Dahl takes over the main responsibility for the rest of the season, while defensive specialist Henrik Møllgaard becomes playing assistant coach.
