Inti Chavez Perez's book "Respect, a sex book for lads" has been banned in South Korea. The book has been reviewed by the Ministry of Culture's ethics committee, which believes the book breaks the law in 70 places.
"Conservatives in South Korea began fighting to ban books about sex and relationships last autumn, and now they've got their first ban with my book. I'm shocked that social changes can happen so quickly," says Inti Chavez Perez in a press release.
The ban means the book cannot be sold to people under 19 years old or used in schools' sex education. The decision has been appealed by the publisher that publishes the book in South Korea.
"Respect, a sex book for lads" has been published in 18 languages. Chavez Perez won the Popular Education Prize in 2023 for his work spreading knowledge about puberty and sexuality.
