"It is with a heavy heart that we must announce that the board of Vipers has decided to discontinue operations and put the club into liquidation", the club writes in a press release.
"The board made the decision after thorough assessments of the club's economic situation and lack of opportunities for continued operations."
"No more hope"
Star Jamina Roberts tells GP that she was not at all prepared for the news.
I woke up to a text message about a meeting about the economic situation at 10 am. Then we came here and saw directly in our club leader's face that it was not good, she says to the newspaper.
We've already been through this rollercoaster of emotions once. There is no more hope now.
Chairman Magnus Aglen:
The mood is gloomy. There is a group of people who are very sad and need to take time to understand what has happened, he says according to NTB.
Everyone is released from their contracts and is unemployed. They are desperate and together we must do what we can to help each other through the coming time.
Tough autumn
The news comes after a turbulent autumn.
In October, then-chairman Peter Gitmark announced that the club from Kristiansand needed 25 million Norwegian kronor within three days to avoid bankruptcy.
It was something Vipers did not succeed with, and the club went bankrupt – but was rescued by a group of investors.
But the Norwegian top club, which among other things won the Champions League three years in a row between 2021 and 2023, ultimately could not be saved.
"The triggering factor for the decision is the lack of operating guarantee for the current season, in combination with lack of liquidity", writes Vipers in a press release.
In Vipers, Swedes Carin Strömberg and Nina Koppang also play.
