Ulricehamn declared itself directly ready to take over when the Czech Nove Mesto announced its withdrawal last month. But Sweden seems to be getting rejected despite Gällivare and Östersund also being ready to take over the competitions, says Lars Öberg.
It's likely that we won't get a World Cup to Sweden that weekend. I know that there are other countries nearby that are better suited, says Öberg to Radiosporten.
This concerns the World Cup weekend of January 31-February 2. The decision on who will replace Nove Mesto will be made next week, according to Radiosporten, but according to Öberg, the International Ski Federation (Fis) would prefer an organizer that is closer to the Czech Republic.
We are driving the issue from the Swedish side that one should find "blocks" where one reduces travel and reduces both the climate footprint and costs for all countries. And it naturally lies closer at hand to look at countries that are near the Czech Republic.
Falun is currently the only Swedish World Cup organizer in winter.
